the silent treatment

During the time we lived with our biological mom, she would often punish us by not speaking to us. we could be in a room with our brothers and sisters, and our mom, sometimes our dad. if our mom felt like it, she would quit talking to us. she would then intentionally make an effort to talk to our brothers and sisters while we were there, and purposefully ignore us. do you know how much that hurts? do you know what it feels like to be invisible? do you understand the feelings that come with being ignored by your family? because not only would she not talk to us, she would order our siblings not to speak to us either. so we were totally alone. it was so hard. it is still hard. now if there is a silence in a conversation we’re having, we feel uncomfortable, it fucks with our head. we cant handle it. we feel invisible all over again. if you’ve never felt invisible you wouldnt understand. feeling like you are invisible is the worst feeling in the world. being punished with the silent treatment is crueler than some of the other things our mom did. some of the other abusive things. it was her way of ensuring our silence. and it worked. it really really worked.
